As with most things in life, there are ways to screw up.

Unfortunately, designing a website presents lots of opportunities for screwing up. Don’t worry though! Here are a few tips to making your website redesign much smoother.

1. Make a plan:

When planning out a movie, directors use things called “story boards”. Story boards are pictures of the scene played out on a comic strip. By creating a “Story Board” of your site, you can accurately plan your sites structure and direction.

2. Think about SEO:

Plan ahead, what your prospects might be searching for. If you need help finding this information, try using sites like Spyfu and Moz.

3. Test, then test again:

Try different types of copy or layout on your pages. After you have significant data on the pages, compare and make adjustments accordingly. And you though you would never need to know the scientific method in real life!

4. Beta test:

Get as many eyes on your site as possible. Just like proof reading, it’s hard to critique your own work. Try grabbing a few people (who have no affiliation with the site) and get feedback.

Remember, your website is the face of your business, so treat its redesign accordingly!
